Our Tech Exchange programme is an ideal opportunity and learning experience for anyone interested in gaining first-hand insight into the background running of a ceramics studio. This programme will help you gain the skills, experience and confidence in fulfilling the essential duties of a working pottery studio. In exchange for every 3 hours of technical assistance, you’ll receive credit to book onto our allocated desk & wheel hire sessions. If you provide 12 hours of support each month you’ll also receive 1 free firing per month for any pottery you make off site. Full training and guidance will be given before each task but we require applicants to have knowledge in making, glazing and clay preparation procedures. Duties will include;
Reclaiming clay
Clay preparation
Mixing glazes and glazing pottery
Organising customers pottery
General cleaning and tidying duties
Preparing studio for classes
Days and time for tech work; Newbie technicians: Tuesday 3-6pm, Wednesday 3-6pm, Thursday 3-6pm, every other Friday 11am – 2pm, every other Friday 1pm-4pm or every other Friday full day 10am-4pm Experienced technicians: Including the above + Saturday 11am-2pm, Saturday 1-4pm or Saturday all day 10-4, every other Sunday 11am-2pm, 1pm-4pm or 10am-4pm
Days and time for desk/wheel sessions; Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 3-6pm or every other Friday 11am-2pm. Includes wheel hire and desk hire. Clay and glazes not included.
Terms and conditions:
Applicants must have previous experience and knowledge working with clay and glazes. No experience in technical support needed as full training is provided.
Applicants must have provided at least 3 hours technical assistance before they can claim 3 hours of free studio time.
Minimum 3 hours tech time per month/ 3 hours studio time per month. Max 12 hours tech time/ 12 hours studio time per month.
Credits to use on our studio hire sessions will be issued at the end of each week. Includes free 1.5kg of clay plus firing per session. A charge is made for the use of our glazes.
Free firing for out of studio made pottery. One shelf of pottery up to height of 15cm. Must complete 12 hours per month.
Applicants must attend an induction before the programme begins.
This programme can be terminated by both parties at any time.
